Prevalence of Anemia, Iron Deficiency Anemia and its Socio-Demographic Factors among Pregnant Women in Garmian Province, Kurdistan region of Iraq

Anemia is the most common hematologic abnormality in pregnancy. Maternal anemia associated with adverse fetal, neonatal, and childhood outcomes. This study aims to determine prevalence of anemia, iron deficiency (IDA), severity condition, effect some socio-demographic factors on pregnant women Garmian province. The was conducted among 157 province between 17 49 years old. Participants completed a questionnaire that included sociodemographic characteristics, disease, gestational age. A hematological evaluation, including complete blood count (CBC) serum for ferritin testing. Results this have shown IDA were 34.4% 15.3%, respectively. Almost three-quarters had mild while 31 % subjects moderate about 60% participants diagnosed normocytic anemia. second trimester highest prevalence, 51.9% anemic 45.8% subjects, first showed lowest 14.8 12.5% subjects. Age, occupation, gravidity did not make significant difference. Moreover, there no difference indices participants. level unaffected by pregnancy trimesters.
